Silent Victims. by musicangel071 Silent Victims. by musicangel071
SPEAK UP;;
I CAN'T HEAR//HELP YOU

---

This was originally going to be a photo essay, but this image ended up being a stand-alone.

I had to kick myself to upload it.

I'll continue it later.

It's hard to talk sometimes.
But if you or a friend needs help,
Don't be afraid to ask for it.

Edit: Thank you for the DD! The statistic was taken from RAINN.org, which can be viewed here: [link]

" Silent Victims. by ~musicangel071 contains a potent and profound message that should be recognized by all.
As this was posted in 2008, the percentage might not be entirely accurate, but it's true that a high percentage of people who have been sexually assaulted have not been reported. " -3wyl ( Suggested by 3wyl and Featured by PurpelBlur )

How do you know that they happened then? I'm just curious, it seems like it would be difficult to get this information. That said, even if sexual assaults were reduced to one per year, that would probably be one too many.

They mean they aren't reported when they happen.
Women come forward years later and confess to being sexually harrassed. But only 4 women out of 10 actually reported being sexually mistreated.

or 40 women out of 100.

Oh. I see. I wonder why this particular crime is not immediately reported? robbery and vandalism are reported much faster. Maybe it would be different if there was such a thing as rape insurance.

I think it's because they're ashamed. It's hard to explain, but once you get it, it's pretty understandable.

A real pity. Hopefully one day rape victims will not have any more shame than victims of mugging or hacking.

It's especially sad when a person's own parents do not believe them. It never happened to me, but I have read about people it has happened to.
